Promoting low–Carbon Technologies for Cooling and Heating in Industrial Applications in Egypt

Background

The project will facilitate a comprehensive Egyptian market transformation towards increased use of Solar energy technologies for air conditioning, hot water production, drying applications in industrial and commercial applications. This is to be achieved through a combination of:

  1.  Policy incentive tools;
  2.  Demonstration projects for the creation of operation experience under Egyptian conditions and for awareness and capacity building;
  3.  Strengthened supply chain of quality solar equipment and systems, and
  4.  Strengthened technical skills for local manufacturing and service delivery systems enhanced public awareness. In promoting the market transformation for solar thermal cooling and heating applications, the project will target the following end user categories:

 

  •  Commercial buildings: government office, tourism facilities for hot water, cooling and desalination applications.
  •  Selected industry process using cooling and heat: diary production, food processing, post harvest treatments and storage.

 

Project deliverables

  • Develop the Policy and Regulatory framework to support the use of low carbon technologies for heating and cooling in industrial and commercial applications. 
  • Support the deployment of low carbon technologies for multipurpose applications in industrial and commercial application through technology transfer and passing on know-how to local manufacturersn. 
  • Improve the market manufacture, supply and distribution of solar technologies for cooling and heating. 
  • Build the capacity of technical staff desgining, developing and servicing solar systems.
